The Steelers are defeated by the Patriots.

This season, the Steelers have developed a pattern of creating unnecessary difficulties for themselves.

And in the majority of instances, they had emerged victorious through an emphatic fourth-quarter surge.

They were defeated by the Patriots on Thursday night.

Bailey Zappe threw three touchdown passes in the first half as the Patriots overtook the Steelers 21-3 en route to a 21-18 victory at Acrisure Stadium on Thursday night.

The Steelers' second-straight loss lowers them to 7-6 on the season and threatens to dash any remaining playoff aspirations.

The Steelers occupied the fifth position in the AFC playoff standings heading into the contest. As of now, New England is 3-10.

"They executed the crucial plays while we failed to do so," said Mike Tomlin, head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"(I) thought we fought in the second half, but to come up short on the turnover in terms of the points is the difference in the game."
