Rangers: How much blame does Igor Shesterkin deserve for his struggles this season?

This season, there are few things to complain about the New York Rangers. Every member of the lineup has been nearly flawless, giving the Blueshirts one of the greatest records in the NHL.

Having said that, there are still certain flaws discovered during the year.Surprisingly, Igor Shesterkin is one of the few players who has fallen short of expectations.

The great goaltender has shined in every season of his career, but his abilities appear to have deteriorated in the first 26 games of the season.

He's won 10 of his first 16 starts, but there's something odd about Shesterkin's game. Worst of all, none of it is actually his fault.

It's safe to say that Shesterkin's last two starts in goal have been his two poorest of the season. He's allowed nine goals in his last three appearances and has a.859 save percentage.

Both games were against non-playoff opponents, and the Rangers should have comfortably won both.

However, it's difficult to fault Shesterkin for these figures when the Rangers' defense was as poor as it was in front of him.

Any elite goaltender can strive to keep his team in the game with personal success, but it gets difficult when the defense constantly fails.
