Travis, a 1959 Marshville, North Carolina native, started singing in church and playing guitar with his father. Travis traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a music career after high school.
Travis initially signed with Warner Bros. Records in 1985. "Storms of Life," his 1986 debut, sold well. The album produced hits “1982,” “On the Other Hand,” and “Diggin’ Up Bones.”
