Patrick Mahomes called the Chiefs' loss to the Lions a 'embarrassing' one.

On Thursday night, the Kansas City Chiefs lost 21-20 as 6.5-point favorites in the NFL season opener.

They were without star tight end Travis Kelce, which shifted the spread to the Detroit Lions by almost a field goal, yet a team that missed the playoffs last year beat the Super Bowl Champions at home

Detroit missed the playoffs last year, but they've won nine of their last 11 games.

But the Chiefs are favorites to go back-to-back, a feat not accomplished since the 2004 and 2005 New England Patriots, so Patrick Mahomes' fury at the loss is understandable.

"Losing time is embarrassing," Mahomes remarked after the game.

The Chiefs hosted a celebration to remember their Super Bowl LVII win over the Philadelphia Eagles in February, but Mahomes focused on the task at hand and failed.

"I've moved on to the next season," he stated after the ring ceremony. Fans can see the banner and visit Arrowhead Stadium, which is cool.

I realize this is a new year, and we're aiming to win another Super Bowl, so this isn't the way we intended to start.
