Ohio State colleagues recall 'unfair' treatment and 'difficult moments' for quarterback Kyle McCord prior to the transfer decision.

Columbus, Ohio— Kyle McCord and Ohio State defensive end Jack Sawyer have a lifelong friendship that will survive his transfer.

Sawyer, who knew McCord well, noticed his reaction after poor games, especially the Michigan loss.

“I felt bad for him how he was treated after those games, and I don’t think it was fair,” Sawyer added.

I know Ohio State quarterbacks are expected to win games. I don't blame him for our Ann Arbor loss.

I think it was unfair. Kyle is my everything, and I wish him well. What a sad way to end his career here.”

Ohio State players learned about McCord's move in different ways. Josh Fryar and Donovan Jackson, offensive lineman, said social media had the news.

Tyleik Williams, a defensive tackle, said McCord told several locker room players “he was going to explore other opportunities”

McCord beat Devin Brown for the preseason starter's job, and Brown was “caught off guard” when he got the news from the source.

He considered McCord a dear friend. Now, he may succeed McCord, taking on the attention and strain.

Sitting behind him and watching him mature helped me reflect on what I should concentrate on and improve.”
