NFL rumors: Sam Howell's Commanders future gets eye-opening update

The Washington Commanders are 4-9 entering their Week 14 bye. Things haven't gone well for the team since new owner Josh Harris and his company took over in July.

Defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio was fired, offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was sacked, and it appears that head coach Ron Rivera will be fired after the remaining four games.

Among all of this turbulence, first-year Commanders starting quarterback Sam Howell stands out. "In 2023, quarterback Sam Howell, a fifth-round draft pick in 2022,

was handed the ball with 19 career throwing attempts. Despite his inexperience and low selection position, Rivera and the coaching staff admired Howell's calmness, trusted his decision-making,

"Despite being in danger of breaking the NFL single-season record of 76 sacks — he has been dropped 58 times — Howell is second in the league in passing yards (3,466) and has accounted for 21 touchdowns (18 passing, 3 rushing) on the year."
