Lions Predicted to Sign ‘Mountain’ Defensive Lineman to Active Roster
The Detroit Lions have a significant void at defensive line after starter Alim McNeill was placed on injured reserve, but one insider believes the team will make up part of the difference by adding a practice squad standout described as a "mountain" of a guy.
McNeill suffered a sprained knee in the team's December 3 win over the New Orleans Saints and was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday.
McNeill will be out for at least the next four weeks as a result of the move, which is a significant blow to an already injured defense. McNeill was having a career year, recording five sacks and 31 total tackles.
However, Mike Payton of AtoZ Sports speculated that the Lions would shortly activate Quinton Bohanna to add some seasoned depth.
As Payton mentioned, the Lions elevated Bohanna for the last three games, during which he played 20 or more snaps.
Because the team has hit the maximum of three practice squad elevations, if they wish to play Bohanna again this season, they will need to sign him to the active roster.
"Three regular season games and two starts in a row would lead you to believe that some trust has grown there and that the Lions want to maybe keep seeing where this goes," Payton said in a statement.
"This is especially important with McNeill out for at least the next four games." If they want Bohanna to play, they must add him on the active roster."
