Chiefs-Dolphins game in Germany draws near-record rating for NFL Network

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Miami Dolphins 21-14 in front of 50,023 fans at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, Germany

on Sunday. Many, many, many more people watched it on television in the United States.

The NFL's second-ever International Series game in Germany received a 4.8 average rating and 9.18 million total viewers for the NFL Network broadcast,

which began at 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday. It is the most-watched morning game on NFL Network since the Dolphins and New York Jets drew 9.86 million viewers in London in 2015,

and it is the most-watched morning game ever broadcast on NFL Network, surpassing the 5.5 million viewers who tuned in to watch the Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Munich last season.

As one can expect, the game drew a large crowd in Kansas City alone, as Sports Business Journal's John Ourand noted:

The total rating of the game trailed only the Week 1 Buffalo Bills-New York Jets matchup on "Monday Night Football" and the September 16 Colorado State-Colorado matchup

as the most-watched cable sporting events since Game 7 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat in May.

The final game on the NFL's 2023 International Series calendar will take place Sunday morning in Frankfurt between the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots.
